Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson hasn’t finished his summer recruitment drive just yet after a winless start to the Championship season.

Wrexham drew 2-2 with Sheffield Wednesday over the weekend, squandering a 2-0 lead over the Owls to only take a point.

Phil Parkinson is still waiting for his first league win of the season, but there are still reasons for Wrexham fans to feel optimistic.

Tuesday night brings another break from Championship action, with Wrexham travelling to face Preston North End in the Carabao Cup.

Wrexham beat Hull City in the last round, pulling off an incredible late comeback to force penalties and then book a place in the second round.

Phil Parkinson on Wrexham transfer puzzle

Parkinson is likely to shake up his squad on Tuesday night, with some rotation to be expected.

New Wrexham signing Callum Doyle could start, as he looks to settle in with his new teammates.

Doyle may not be Wrexham’s final signing of the summer, though, as Parkinson continues to explore new additions.

Wrexham have wrapped up 10 signings this summer, spending more than £20million on new additions to Parkinson’s squad.

With just a week of the transfer window to go, Parkinson has told BBC Sport that he is still working on more signings.

Parkinson believes that Wrexham’s puzzle is not yet complete, and wants to add the ‘finishing touches’ on the window.

Parkinson wouldn’t be drawn on just how many signings he still wants, but he hopes to have the Wrexham squad in the perfect place next week.

“There’s a week left to put some finishing touches to the jigsaw we’ve been trying to piece together,” said Parkinson.

“We know how we want it to look, but we’re not quite there yet. Hopefully by next week we’ll have the squad how we want it,” he added.

Phil Parkinson on Nathan Broadhead

Parkinson will be weighing up who to start and who to leave out as Wrexham make the trip to Lancashire on Tuesday night.

Nathan Broadhead has yet to kickstart his Wrexham career after his big-money move from Ipswich Town and may see the Carabao Cup as an ideal chance to get going.

Let’s not go overboard, though: Broadhead has played 128 minutes of Championship action for Wrexham, so it’s far too soon to even have concerns, never mind write him off.

Broadhead could miss out, though, as Parkinson has admitted a slight calf problem for the Welsh forward.

Parkinson suggested that other summer signings – George Thomason and Josh Windass – have picked up injuries after arriving from other clubs.

Parkinson wants to be cautious with Broadhead as a result and could leave him out against PNE, while defender Liberato Cacace won’t be available.

“Libby {Cacace] is on the grass today, but tomorrow will come too soon for him,” said Parkinson.

“Kieffer, his ankle has settled down again, so we’ll look at him tomorrow. Nathan Broadhead’s got a bit of a tight calf and we have to be cautious with players because the ones who have come in and been at other clubs have picked up little niggles, some worse than others with George [Thomason] and Josh [Windass], so we’ve got to be careful with Nathan, but he’ll get there,” he added.

Parkinson hails from Chorley, just outside of Preston, and his parents were North End fans growing up, so the Wrexham boss will certainly take this game seriously and go for a win.
